Wrote this when I was feeling really jaded about what a commodity hardcore had become in 2006. People wrote anthems about how awesome being in a band was like that was some sort of agent of change. As much as people loved this song as some sort of battle cry, the fact that the chorus doesn't actually have words is a straight mockery of the anthems that a lot of bands were putting out. The verses though are pretty much about how disgusted I was with hardcore labels at the time.
lyrics
Will there come a time when we will learn
this ivory tower is no place for us
building walls just gives us something else to burn
we just need an anthem we can trust
Whoa-oh-oh-oh.
Whoa-oh-oh-oh.
We knew if we built
then they would come
but we never dreamed
they would lay siege to us
tied up, tied down in every way
I had no idea, you'd throw it away.
Whoa-oh-oh-oh.
Whoa-oh-oh-oh.
My heart never sleeps
Whoa-oh-oh-oh.
and I will not concede
Whoa-oh-oh-oh.
to market my legacy
Whoa-oh-oh-oh.
Whoa-oh-oh-oh.
